This PA Turnpike toll calculator looks up the 2026 toll for a car between any two interchanges on the mainline Pennsylvania Turnpike, the Northeast Extension and the I-95 link, with E-ZPass and with Toll By Plate. It also adds up trips of several legs and works out what a regular commute costs a month and a year. Rates are the PA Turnpike Commission’s own 2026 schedules.

About the PA Turnpike toll calculator

The PA Turnpike’s official calculator prices one leg at a time. Its own tips say to calculate each leg of a multi-leg trip separately. That’s fine for one drive, and slow for a commute. This PA Turnpike toll calculator does the parts people usually work out on paper:

  • Several legs in one go. Get off for a meeting and back on later? Add a leg for each stretch.
  • Round trips priced both ways. A few tolls are charged in one direction only, so the way back isn’t always the same.
  • E-ZPass and Toll By Plate side by side. For the trip, the month and the year.
  • A commute in dollars a year. Trips a week times weeks a year.
  • Plain warnings. If a pair has no fixed rate in the schedule, it says so and leaves it out rather than guessing.

It runs in your browser. Nothing you choose is sent anywhere or saved.

How to use it

  1. Pick where you get on and off. Interchanges are listed by road and exit number.
  2. Add legs if you leave the Turnpike and come back on.
  3. Tick round trip to price the way back too.
  4. Enter trips a week and weeks a year for the commute cost.

2026 PA Turnpike tolls for common trips

A car, one way, from the 2026 schedules:

Trip E-ZPass Toll By Plate
Pittsburgh (57) to Valley Forge (326) $41.17 $82.34
Pittsburgh (57) to Bensalem (351) $47.54 $95.08
Pittsburgh (57) to Harrisburg East (247) $28.60 $57.20
Harrisburg East (247) to Valley Forge (326) $12.57 $25.14
Breezewood (161) to Harrisburg East (247) $14.21 $28.42
Carlisle (226) to Harrisburg East (247) $4.93 $9.86
Reading (286) to Valley Forge (326) $7.46 $14.92
New Stanton (75) to Pittsburgh (57) $3.58 $7.16
Valley Forge (326) to Norristown (333) $1.65 $3.30
Wilkes-Barre (105) to Mid-County (20) $14.14 $28.28
Lehigh Valley (56) to Mid-County (20) $6.03 $12.06

E-ZPass or Toll By Plate?

Toll By Plate photographs your plate and mails an invoice to the registered owner. It costs more. On every trip in the table above it is exactly double the E-ZPass toll, and the PA Turnpike says drivers can save 50 percent with E-ZPass.

Over a year, that adds up. A Reading to Valley Forge commute, five round trips a week for 48 weeks:

  • With E-ZPass: $14.92 a day, $3,580.80 a year.
  • By Toll By Plate: $29.84 a day, $7,161.60 a year.

That’s $3,580.80 a year saved on one commute. Check your E-ZPass account terms for any fees, which this PA Turnpike toll calculator doesn’t include.

Trips with more than one leg

If you get off the Turnpike and back on, each stretch is a separate trip with its own toll. Add a leg for each one and the PA Turnpike toll calculator totals them.

Splitting a trip doesn’t always cost more. Pittsburgh to Harrisburg East ($28.60) and then Harrisburg East to Valley Forge ($12.57) adds up to $41.17, exactly the same as Pittsburgh to Valley Forge in one go. That’s because most of the Turnpike is now charged by distance and segments, not by a flat fee per trip.

Why a round trip can cost two different amounts

Some toll points charge one direction only. The clearest is the Gateway toll near the Ohio line, which is eastbound only:

  • Gateway (2) to Butler Valley (39): $10.14 with E-ZPass.
  • Butler Valley (39) to Gateway (2): $1.94 with E-ZPass.

Tick round trip and the PA Turnpike toll calculator prices each direction from its own row in the schedule.

How 2026 tolls are worked out

Tolls rose 4% on January 4, 2026. On the mainline (I-76 and I-276) and the Northeast Extension (I-476), the Commission says tolls are calculated per segment and distance traveled. For a car with E-ZPass, the rate moved to 7.3 cents a mile and the segment fee to $1.13, with tolls rounded up to the nearest penny.

Open Road Tolling, where gantries charge you at highway speed with no booths, started east of Reading and on the Northeast Extension in January 2025. It’s due west of Reading in January 2027. Where gantries aren’t working yet, tolls are still charged interchange to interchange under the same rates.

The PA Turnpike toll calculator doesn’t do the per-mile sum itself. It reads the Commission’s printed 2026 schedule, the same figures you’d find in its PDFs.

Cars, trucks and the class of your vehicle

Tolls depend on axles and whether the vehicle is high or low profile. This tool covers the “2 Axle Low” class: cars, SUVs, minivans, pickups and motorcycles. Towing a trailer adds axles and moves you to another class.

For most trips the heavier classes are a set multiple of the car toll. But not for all of them: trips through the Gateway toll or the Delaware River Bridge break the pattern, and so does Toll By Plate rounding. Rather than estimate, the page points trucks and trailers to the official schedule.

When there’s no rate

The schedule marks some pairs “See Maps”: stretches with no toll, such as between New Castle and Beaver Valley, and trips that depend on a specific Open Road Tolling point. The PA Turnpike toll calculator lists those legs, leaves them out of the total, and tells you to check the official calculator.

Saving on PA Turnpike tolls

  • Get an E-ZPass if you drive the Turnpike more than now and then.
  • Pay Toll By Plate invoices on time. Late invoices can carry fees, and unpaid tolls can lead to enforcement.
  • Check where you get on. Joining one interchange further along can cut the toll on a short commute.
  • Budget for a rise each year. The Commission raises tolls every year under its Act 44 plan; the 2026 rise took effect on January 4.

What this can’t tell you

  • Other toll roads. It covers the mainline, the Northeast Extension and the I-95 link, not the Mon/Fayette, the Southern Beltway or bridge tolls elsewhere.
  • Heavier vehicles. Use the official schedule.
  • Account fees or discounts. Check your E-ZPass terms.
  • 2027 rates. When the next schedule is published, the figures here will be updated.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the PA Turnpike from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia?

In a car in 2026, Pittsburgh (Exit 57) to Valley Forge (Exit 326) is $41.17 with E-ZPass and $82.34 by Toll By Plate. To Bensalem (Exit 351) it is $47.54 with E-ZPass.

How much do I save with E-ZPass on the PA Turnpike?

On most trips Toll By Plate costs twice the E-ZPass toll. A Valley Forge to Fort Washington commute, five round trips a week for 50 weeks, costs $1,610 a year with E-ZPass and $3,220 by Toll By Plate.

Did PA Turnpike tolls go up in 2026?

Yes, by 4% from January 4, 2026. On the mainline and the Northeast Extension, the E-ZPass rate for a car moved to 7.3 cents a mile plus a $1.13 segment fee, rounded up to the cent.

How do I work out the toll if I get off and back on?

Each stretch is charged separately, so add a leg for each one. Splitting a trip does not always cost more: Pittsburgh to Harrisburg East ($28.60) and on to Valley Forge ($12.57) adds up to the same $41.17 as the straight trip.

Why is the toll different in each direction?

A few points charge one way only. The Gateway toll near the Ohio line is eastbound only, so Gateway to Butler Valley is $10.14 with E-ZPass but Butler Valley to Gateway is $1.94. Tick round trip and both directions are priced.

Does this work for trucks or trailers?

No, it covers 2-axle vehicles: cars, SUVs, pickups and motorcycles. Heavier classes do not follow a simple multiple of the car toll on every trip, so for those use the PA Turnpike's official toll schedule.
